Alumni Association Board of Directors

christine lopesChristine Lopes ’97 is the director of community and external affairs for the Rhode Island Mayoral Academies. In this role, she promotes education reform through public charter schools based on the mayoral academies model. Christine has worked extensively with non-profit organizations and is experienced in legislative advocacy and procedure. She currently serves as treasurer for the Rhode Island ACLU.

As an undergraduate, Christine served as president of the Student Government Association, was a member of the Cape Verdean Student Alliance, and was an ALANA Caucus member and Student Senator. She was the recipient of the CCEBMS Chancellor Randolph Bromery Award, the Minority Alumni Association Award, and received a community service award from the Black Student Union.

Christine graduated from UMass Amherst in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in social thought and political economy and a double minor in African American studies and political science. She earned a master’s in public administration from Suffolk University in 2009.

Christine is an appointed member of the Board of Directors and serves on the Scholarships & Awards Committee and the Diversity & Inclusion Task Force. She is Sustaining Member of the Alumni Association.
