Michael Fiorentino, Jr. ’78 EdD is vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost at Fitchburg State College. Previously, he was chair and professor in the Department of Special Education and chair of the MEd Program in Educational Leadership at the college. Michael also served as associate vice president and executive assistant to the president at Framingham State College and associate vice president for academic affairs at Framingham State College. He was associate dean and principal for the McKay Campus School / Teacher Education Center at Fitchburg State College and taught in the Needham Public School system.
Michael has done consulting work for the U.S. Department of State; the Office of Overseas Schools; the University of Georgia; the Association for the Advancement of International Education; the Association of American Schools in Central America, Columbia, the Caribbean, and Mexico; and Sopris West Educational Services. He is active with UMass Amherst Advocacy Programs and served as president of the Massachusetts Council for Exceptional Children. In addition, Michael has been an active volunteer for the North Central Massachusetts Association for Retarded Citizens, the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Council, the Fitchburg School Committee, the United Way of North Central Massachusetts and the E.J.M. Community Services, Inc.
Michael earned his EdD in Educational Administration from UMass Amherst in 1978. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College and his MEd from Boston University. He resides in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Michael is an elected member of the Alumni Association Board and chairs the Volunteer Advocacy and Public Affairs Committee. He has been a member of the Alumni Association since 2001.
