Election Process
- Five (5) directors will be elected to the Board of Directors this spring.
- To be eligible for consideration by the Nominating Committee, nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Be a UMass Amherst alumna/us
- Be a dues-paying member of the Alumni Association in good standing
- Meet eligibility requirements for maximum allowable years of consecutive Board service
- Pledge to abide by the Volunteer Code of Conduct, Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest statement
In addition, nominees must submit a complete nominee application to the Alumni Association no later than 5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20.
- The Nominating Committee will review all applications and conduct nominee interviews in March.
Upon completing their evaluation of all nominees, the Nominating Committee will develop a proposed slate of candidates for review by the Secretary of the Alumni Association. A maximum of ten (10) candidates will be included on the director slate.
- The Nominating Committee will distribute notice of the director elections to eligible voters during the first week of April by whatever means are most practicable. Current members of the Alumni Association are eligible to vote in the director election. Eligible voters may vote online or by paper ballot. An organization independent of the Alumni Association and its staff members will tally all ballots.
Voting will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and the Nominating Committee will publicize election results no later than May 5.
- Elected directors will serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2008 to coincide with the Alumni Association’s fiscal year.
- The names of any nominees not placed on the ballot and/or candidates not elected will be considered for a possible one (1) year appointment to one of the Board’s strategic committees.
