Accomplishments
- Over one million visitors have clicked on UMass Alumni.com for news, member benefits, event listings, and online services.
- Our newly enhanced Online Community offers opportunities to connect, network, and share your news with your fellow alumni.
- Over 200 guests attended the Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony held in the Massachusetts State House in April. The 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients included Former Dean Thomas O’Brien, Jess Kane ’70, Carmel Valianti ’79, Fergus Clydesdale ’66 PhD, Arlindo Jorge ’50, and Tisato Kajiyama ’69 PhD. - Over 500 volunteers shared their time and expertise to coordinate alumni events across the nation, serve on boards and committees, speak at professional development workshops, and advocate for UMass Amherst.
- The Alumni Association’s Alumni Career Services program provided professional development guidance and networking opportunities for mid-career and young alumni. Accomplished alumni such as Robert M. Mahoney ’70, vice chairman of Citizens Bank; Melissa MacDonnell ’84, vice president corporate public affairs for Liberty Mutual; and Nick Nyan ’92, founder of Dynamic Logic, to name a few, shared their experiences and industry knowledge with fellow alumni.
Awards & Scholarships
Contributing to the student experience is an important part of the Alumni Association’s mission. This past year over 100 awards and scholarships totaling almost $100,000 were awarded to students in recognition of academic achievement, leadership,and service to the community.

Grants
Each year, the Alumni Association awards $40,000 in grants of up to $2,000 each to student organizations, academic departments and campus groups. Grants support a wide variety of activities that enhance the student experience, promote tradition, support academic excellence, reconnect alumni to the university, and increase the interaction between students and alumni.
