MISSION — why we exist

To connect, represent and engage alumni, students, and the university community while advocating for the university’s interests.

VISION — our current challenge

Be a partner with faculty and staff in the success of UMass by providing services and programs to enlighten, strengthen, and develop student and alumni bodies.

CORE VALUES — what we believe

Leadership – We provide services and financial support to our constituents; we are innovative and lead by example.
Advocacy – We serve as the university’s champion, promoting and supporting its interests and reputation through volunteerism and philanthropy.
Community – We cultivate and reinforce the bonds between the university and its alumni and students.
Diversity – We value, promote and engage all university constituents.
Education – We enhance and develop the university’s academic standing, developing and supporting alumni and student programs.
Interdependence – We are comprised of self governed volunteers that serve as the representative voice of our constituents.

Strategic GoalsObjectives

1. Expand outreach by broadening scope of programs and services.

  1. Create consistent message for what the Association stands for.
  2. Create comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to cultivate the idea of membership investing and reciprocal benefit for current and future alumni.
  3. Develop sponsorship agreements that are mutually beneficial.
  4. Broaden scope of quality and diversity of alumni and student programs, services, activities to encourage greater participation and attendance at such.
  5. Provide affinity partnerships and membership services that are of benefit and advantageous to alumni.

2. Collaborate with the campus through partnering with departments and faculty to create initiatives to support campus priorities. (Act as a torchbearer of the institutional spirit.) (It’s all about the students.)

  1. Create opportunities for partnership and collaboration with the campus that supports the Association’s mission.
  2. Create communications program for use by campus partners for outreach to and engagement of alumni.
  3. Develop programs with academic and student life departments, as well as campus groups of diversity, taking advantage of professional experience to prepare students for post-graduation.
  4. Develop a program to engage prospective students, current students and their families from first contact to graduation.
  5. Develop and cultivate student traditions and philanthropy.

3. Build mutually beneficial relationships to engage alumni through volunteerism and advocacy.

  1. Define advocacy and the Association’s role as related to campus community, state legislature, and community at large, and work in collaboration with Government Relations.
  2. Develop network of alumni volunteers, speakers, experts to promote the Association as resource for admissions, career services, student programs, and legislative advocacy.
  3. Improve advocacy communications and opportunities for involvement in support of campus.
