Eric Janszen '04
Eric Janszen ’04 is the co-founder and president of iTulip, Inc., a global online and financial markets review company founded in 1998. As an economic analyst, venture capitalist and author, Janszen has garnered a national reputation as an innovative thinker on economic issues. He recognized the inherently unsustainable nature of the U.S. economy in the 21st century and was among the few analysts to accurately predict its collapse in 2008.
Prior to starting iTulip, Janszen was president and CEO start-up technology company AutoCell Laboratories, Inc. He was also the Entrepreneur in Residence at the $1.6B venture capital firm Trident Capital, president and CEO of Bluesocket, Inc., and managing director of seed stage investment firm Osborn Capital.
Janszen has translated his many years of executive-level experience in the technology industry and as a venture capitalist into numerous books and articles. He is co-author of America's Bubble Economy and a soon-to-be released book entitled, The Post-Catastrophe Economy: Rebuilding After the Great Collapse of 2008. He wrote an acclaimed article for Harper's about economic bubbles and is frequently interviewed and quoted on CNBC, NPR, Wall Street Journal, Barron's, USA Today, Wired.com, BBC, and Reuters, among others.
Michael Malone, Vice Chair of Research and Engagement, notes Janzen’s provocative views on creating a self-sustaining economy, “He pointed out in a March 2008 interview with Wired.com that “within in a year” our current “FIRE” centric economy – Finance, Insurance and Real Estate – would be impossible to resuscitate. In his forthcoming book, Janszen proposes an ideal new “TECI” economy of the future—dominated by Transportation, Energy, Communications, and Infrastructure. He stresses the need to invest in innovation and industries such as biotechnology, alternative energy and nanotechnology.”
