The UMass Amherst Alumni Association represents and serves a network of more than 260,000 alumni worldwide. We strive to continually enhance the student experience, strengthen alumni connections and advance UMass Amherst.
Our mission includes:
- Strengthening bonds between students, alumni and the university
- Representing and serving the interests of our diverse alumni community
- Heightening the university’s brand and standing within the Commonwealth and beyond
- Sharing opportunities for volunteerism and philanthropy that support UMass Amherst
The UMass Amherst Alumni Association was founded in 1874 as the Associate Alumni of the Massachusetts Agricultural College. It was incorporated in 1919 and registered as a non-profit corporation under Chapter 180 of the General Laws of the Commonwealth.
As the university grew over the years so did the Alumni Association through world wars, population growth, campus expansions and changing funding streams. In order to better serve alumni, the Association’s annual dues-based membership program ended in 2010. The Association relies on alumni membership investments to sustain its efforts to continue to provide services and programs to both alumni and students.
A Board of Directors comprised of 33 alumni and student volunteers governs the Association. Support of the Board of Directors is provided by Association staff who oversee alumni member services, alumni communications and marketing, alumni networks and programs, and career, student, and volunteer programs, and maintain their place of business in Memorial Hall at the UMass Amherst campus.
