Virtual - Read UMass: Range

Range

Love reading and looking for a novel way to connect with other UMass Amherst alumni? Put down the remote and join the Read UMass Virtual Book Club. With a focus on lifelong learning, social issues, psychology, and more, this club provides a space for you to share your thoughts, discuss new ideas, and tap into a network of other curious minds.

Our virtual book club will be hosted by PBC Guru via a private, online forum that is designed to let you read at your own pace while still participating in curated discussions. The first book we’ll read is Range, a 2019 New York Times best-seller by David Epstein.

In Range, "David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel. Generalists often find their path late, and they juggle many interests rather than focusing on one. They’re also more creative, more agile, and able to make connections their more specialized peers can’t see." - Amazon.com

Register soon to be part of our first reading that begins on May 1. We'll read between 4 and 5 books a year (approximately one every eight weeks). Feel free to participate in one or all of the book selections.

There is no cost to participate - you just need a copy of the book to read.
