Jody J. Daniels is currently serving as a Brigadier General on active duty with the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Stuttgart, Germany. She is the Deputy Director (J2 Intelligence and Knowledge Development) responsible for the intelligence and counterintelligence to facilitate situational awareness, warning and assessments on the threats across the 54 countries in the AFRICOM area of responsibility.

Daniels has over 30 years of active and reserve military service and previously served as the Commanding General of the 87th Army Reserve Support Command East in Birmingham, Alabama and Deputy Commanding General for Support of the First Army Division East in Fort Meade, Maryland. She was responsible for the mobilization, demobilization, training and discipline of all deploying Army Reserve units east of the Mississippi River. She was also responsible for eight Brigade headquarters elements, one Mobilization Support Group and 49 Battalions with an authorized strength of over 4,200 Soldiers.

She completed a successful tenure as Commander of a Theater Support Command, which consisted of 11 military intelligence (MI) battalions and over 3,650 personnel covering all intelligence disciplines and spread across the United States. She has served in numerous military leadership positions including command of a MI company in Korea, a basic training battalion in New Jersey, and a MI group in Massachusetts. She completed a Civil Affairs deployment to Kosovo and a deployment to Iraq where she served as the Chief of Plans and Integration, and then as the Director for Intelligence (J2) for the Multi-National Security Transition Command – Iraq.

In her civilian career, Daniels served as the first director of Advanced Programs for Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technology Laboratories (LM ATL) focused on developing technical and business relationships throughout LM with an emphasis on finding transition opportunities for ATL-developed capabilities, exchanging technical concepts and collaborating on emerging concepts and technologies. She was LM ATL’s strategic level representative for multiple technology areas including cyberspace, human terrain and mobile computing.

Prior to this role, she was the director of the Contextual Systems Laboratory where she led a research and development laboratory of 30 personnel in two technology software areas: situation understanding and user centered interfaces. She has also been a manager and engineer in LM ATL's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She has served on Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Information Science and Technology (ISAT) advisory Board recommending technology thrusts to the DARPA and Office Directors for pursuit for five years and Drexel University’s Computer Science Department Advisory Board for three years.

Daniels holds a BS in applied mathematics (computer science) from Carnegie Mellon University, a MS and PhD in computer science from UMass Amherst, and MS in strategic studies from the U. S. Army War College. Her military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award and Knowlton Award. She was recognized by Lockheed Martin with seven Special Recognition Awards and an Award of Distinction. Daniels was noted for her research with two DARPA Program Manager presented awards.
