Each year, the Alumni Association presents more than 100 scholarships and awards totaling over $100,000 to UMass Amherst students. Read below about these invaluable scholarships and learn how alumni give back to support student success. Applications are now being accepted through March 13, 2024. 

Greater Boston Alumni Network Scholarship

1 Recipient of $1,000 Scholarship

The UMass Amherst Greater Boston Alumni Network Scholarship was established by the Greater Boston Alumni Network to assist with the educational pursuits of students from Boston high schools. Recipients demonstrate diverse records of achievement in academics, leadership, and are student role models.

Leaders in the Making Scholarship

2 Recipients of $2,000 Scholarships

The Leaders in the Making Scholarship supports the pursuits of promising sophomores and juniors. Recipients have diverse records of achievement in academics, volunteerism, and leadership, and are student role models.

Life Members Internship Award

2 Recipients of $2,000 Scholarships

The Life Members Internship Award was created by the Alumni Association to defray the costs of summer internships for UMass Amherst students. The program was designed to support the academic and career pursuits of commendable students from diverse campus populations whose records suggest that they will develop into alumni with admirable leadership qualities upon graduation.

Mary Killeen Bennett '93 EdD Book Fund

2 Recipients of $500 Awards

The Mary Killeen Bennett ’93 EdD Book Fund was established by the UMass Amherst Alumni Association in memory of the late Mary Killeen Bennett, a passionate advocate for UMass Amherst and leader in the Pioneer Valley. The fund provides financial support for graduates of public high schools in the Pioneer Valley who are in their first year at UMass Amherst to defray the anticipated cost of textbooks.

Michael W. Morris '63 Scholarship

1 Recipient of $2,000 Scholarship

The Michael W. Morris Scholarship has been named in honor of Lawrence native and longtime UMass Amherst champion, Michael W. Morris of the class of 1963. A past president of the Alumni Association, he remains a vital and active alumni ambassador. This scholarship is available to current undergraduate students from the Lawrence or Lowell areas who demonstrate distinctive character, leadership, and motivation through active participation in the campus community.

New York Alumni Network Scholarship

1 Recipient of $750 Scholarship

The UMass Amherst New York Alumni Network Scholarship was established by the New York Metro Alumni Network to assist with the educational pursuits of students from the state of New York. Recipients demonstrate diverse records of achievement in academics, leadership, and are student role models.

Robert B. Collins '19 Student Alumni Association Scholarship

2 Recipients of $1,000 Scholarship

The Robert B. Collins '19 Student Alumni Association (SAA) Scholarship is offered each year to members of SAA who demonstrates outstanding service to the organization, the campus, and the community while maintaining academic success.

Recipients of the following student awards are nominated by Deans, faculty, and other members of the campus community.

21st Century Leaders Award

10 Recipients of $1,000 Awards

The 21st Century Leaders Award recognizes graduating seniors who are academically accomplished and have enhanced the reputation of the flagship campus. Recipients are nominated by campus community members for strong leadership qualities, noteworthy original research, community service, overcoming extraordinary personal circumstances, or a public presentation through art, performance, or athletic ability. The recipients are selected by a committee and the awards are presented during the Undergraduate Commencement celebrations each May.

Band Alumni Scholarship

2 Recipients of $1,000 Scholarships

The Band Alumni Scholarship Fund was established by band members of the Class of 1965 to establish a link between alumni and current band members and to recognize outstanding participation in the band. This scholarship is available to current band members who demonstrate the excellence, energy, and enthusiasm that defines the Minuteman Marching Band.

Cape Cod Alumni Network Scholarship

8 Recipients of $3,000 Scholarships; 1 Recipient of $4,000 Engineering Scholarship

The UMass Amherst Cape Cod Alumni Network Scholarship was established by the Cape Cod Alumni Network to assist incoming students from Cape Cod high schools with their educational pursuits.

Senior Leadership Award

10 Recipients of $500

The Senior Leadership Award recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the UMass Amherst community. Award recipients have distinguished themselves through important contributions to student organizations, campus jobs, academic excellence, and community service.

William F. Field Alumni Scholar Award

56 Recipients of $750 Scholarships

The William F. Field Alumni Scholar Awards were established in 1976 to recognize and honor third-year students for their academic achievements at UMass Amherst. The program was named in honor of William F. Field, the university’s first Dean of Students, for his outstanding support of academic excellence and his personal commitment to bringing out the best in every student.
